Versatility of Mandala stamps and stencils

Hello, and welcome back to the Lisa Horton Craft blog, Claire Newcombe with you today.

Today I'm sharing with you my projects from each of my FB live events throughout the month of June so, plus the first look at a card scheduled for 23rd June.

Each of the projects in the photo above have been made with the June challenge theme in mind, and will be sent to the winner of June challenge which is 'SETS of THREE'

The theme can be interpreted in any way you choose, whether it be adding three elements on your project, or maybe making three ATC's, a set of three co-ordinating projects....your choice, have some fun with it.

There is another way in which all the projects made are linked, and that is that they all feature the fabulous Mandala collection of stamps and stencils....all of which are now available from Lisa's website

I have created a set of three ATC's (artist trading cards) in a very feminine style. The mandala stencils feature in the background as a beautiful backdrop for the A5 Foliage stamps.

You will see on the middle card the mandala pattern has been clear embossed as a design feature.

These cards show the beauty of the Mandala stamps themselves, and the fun you can have colouring them.

But also how they can be used to create subtle backgrounds, when stamped with clear embossing ink onto coloured card for a tone on tone effect.

The mandala stencils are layered here in the background with Lisa Hortons Woodgrain background stamp, and Mandala stamps highlighted with mica powder.

It is important to show that all products released into the Lisa Horton range will be able to mix and match with each other.

4. Facebook live scheduled for 23rd June

This project uses the mandala stencils in a more familiar way, layered up to show their beauty. I have used the circle stencils with. distress ink to create a background. The  'grungy' details have been added using Lisa's A6 Texture stamps.

Distressed Postcards

Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog post. 

Today I'm going to be using Lisa's postcard background stamp as the main focus of a pretty card which would 

be suitable for so many occasions.

You will need: 

Lisa Horton Postcard background stamp

Lisa Horton Daisy Burst die set

Lisa Horton Trailing Foliage stamp set

Lisa Horton sisal

Lisa Horton Luxury Pearls - Rainbow Collection Cool Skies

Stamperia Roses and Laces paper

Distress Oxide inks (or your preference)

Paperclip and lace (optional)

Start by stamping the postcard twice onto some cream card. Holding the stamped image, tear the card edges 

towards you to reveal the core of the card on all sides. Next, use your inks to colour those edges - front and back 

as you will be curling the edges up.  Use Distress Oxides (old paper and just a touch of vintage photo) to give a

vintage feel to your project. I decided to make the postcard underneath darker with a touch of salty ocean 

Distress Ink. Curl the bottom right corners by rolling them around a pencil.

Next I used a portion of 1 sheet of Stamperia Roses and Laces paper pack. I tore the edges and inked them 

the same as the postcards. 

Mount the backing paper onto a cream card and tape the postcards on top. I added a heart shaped paperclip

(from my stash) too.

Stamp your trailing foliage and colour the leaves with ink. Use a brown pencil/pen to darken the stems and then 

cut out your images. (I stamped 2 of the smaller sections).  Slightly curl the edges of the leaves to add a more 

realistic look and then use 3d foam to attach to the edge of the postcard. Remember to only glue the leaves at 

the top if your flowers are going to sit in that area.

Take a little sisal and attach with glue in the area that your flowers will sit. Die cut your flowers - I usually cut 3 for 

each one to add dimension. Layer them up with 3d foam. I used Lisa's newest collection of hombre pearls to give 

a beautiful finishing touch to the daisies, and added a little paper lace from my stash too.

It's our moments of struggle that define us...

Hello again

During these uncertain times, rainbows have been a symbol of hope and strength.  My blog post today is based upon all the vibrant colours of the rainbow and Lisa's stamps namely the "Majestic Butterflies" 

 You will also need:

1 x 5" x 7" card blank

1 x 5" x 7" piece of white card

How to create this card:

1.  Using embossing ink and black embossing powder - heat emboss your chosen Majestic butterfly, onto the 5" x 7" piece of white card.  Try and place at a jaunty angle in the centre of the card.

2.    For this particular card you are using the stencil as the main design.  Take the Bubblewrap stencil and place it centrally over the butterfly image. Seal it down carefully so that there is no risk of movement. Gather together your inks which cover all the colours of the rainbow.  I added mine with egg blending tools.

3.  Work from one side of the stencil to the other and add the stripes of the the rainbow.  Blending as you go.

4.  Now, use the same colours to edge the piece of card.  Match the red edge to the same area as marked on the stencil.  Repeat the process for each colour.

5.  To bring back the image of the butterfly - buff it up using a dry piece of kitchen roll.

6.  Now - highlight the areas of the butterfly wings with your chosen colouring pens.  Stick to the bands of colour that have been inked through the stencil.  For example - use a blue pen to colour the parts of the wings that have blue ink on them.  Your aim is to keep the bands of colour intact.

7.  Finish the card by adding two or three additional details, such as the circle stamps from "In the Loop" / coloured sequins and a Wordage sentiment of your choice.

I think a card like this would be perfect to send to a friend in isolation as "It's our moments of struggle that define us"

Butterflies in the round.

Hi all,

Me again. Lol

Today I wanted to show you how versatile Lisa's fabulous stamps can be.

My team mates are such clever folk when it comes to decorating the wonderful MDF creations that Lisa and Danny come up with and I have to say I have learnt such a lot from them all.

However, with this gorgeous Arty Storage Tub I didn't want to use papers so I chose to paint it with a pearlescent acrylic paint.  In this case I used DoCrafts Artiste Pearl Acrylic Paint in Ice Blue.

I used two coats to ensure a good coverage but it went on beautifully.

Once it was dry I laid out all the side pieces of the box and secured them in place with some masking tape across the back of them so they didn't move.

Then I used the fabulous Jewelled butterflies, the trailing foliage and the sentiment from the Jewelled butterflies set.  I stamped them out as if it was one piece of board and once the ink was dry I took them off the masking tape.  Then it was just a case of putting the box together.

The beauty of all the fabulous MDF products that Lisa and Danny bring to us is the ease of assembly, they are just wonderful.  

For the top of the box I didn't want to just leave it plain so I used Lisa's fabulous Four Point Blooms die set and cut a flower from one of Lisa's gorgeous paper pads, Bali in this case.

Then I used the Butterfly Flourish die set and cut a butterfly in the same paper then added both of these to the top of the box.

The lid handle was made from a discarded necklace and secured on the underside of the lid.

So there you go, a quick and simple way to decorate this fabulous Arty Storage Box.

The lovely butterfy

The lovely butterfly

Today i will show you how i made this card with the lovely butterfly stamp on a gelli plate.

I used the following products from Lisa Horton:

- Majestic butterfly's

- pastel pearls

- White mermaid tails glitter

- texture a6 stamp

- 

At first i used the distress oxide stamp pad, and coverd the gelli plate with the ink.

Next i rolled over the gelli plate to cover the ink over the whole plate.

Then i used the lovely butterfly from Lisa and stamped it with two other distress oxide paints.

Then i stamped the stamp carefully on the gelli plate. To create an impession of the coloured butterfly on the plate.

The stamp imprint you can put that on a blanc peice of paper.

Then take a white peice of paper and lay that on the gelli plate. Carefully rub it and pull it of the plate. And thats your background with the butterfly.

Next i cut out the stamped image from the butterfly.

Now i took some glue and put some lovely white mermaid tails on the butterfly and let that dry.

In meanwhile stick the background on to a black peice of paper, that should be slightly bigger than the background paper. And that together i put that on a slightly bigger piece of white cardstock.

Then glue the butterfly its body on the body of the butterfly from the background card.

Then stamp the background with the texture stamp to add some depth to the card.

As last decorate the card with some pearls and you can add a sentiment to it. And voila a lovely butterfly card is created.

Spotlight on Butterflies

Hello, Claire Newcombe back with you again today.

Some of you may have joined me for my last Facebook live, where I mentioned that Lisa's papers would be perfect for a particular technique to highlight the beautiful butterfly stamps recently released by Lisa Horton.

Today I'm using this opportunity to talk you through that process again, with step by step photos. Although I'm going through a whole project here, I try to included tips and techniques that can be transferred to all projects.

I have create three cards all, using the same technique, but each is unique.

To create todays card, I have used the following of Lisa's products

• Lisa Horton Crafts, Bali Paper pad
• Lisa Horton Crafts, Textures A6 stamp set
• Lisa Horton Crafts, Wings & Things DL stamp set
• Lisa Horton Crafts, Luxury Embossing Powder white
• Lisa Horton Crafts, Medieval stencil
• Lisa Horton Crafts, Wordage sheets

1)  I am using this beautiful sheet from Lisa Hortons Bali, Island Collection of design papers. Use the colours within the paper to determine the inks to use in the project.

2) Stamp some tonal script detail into the lighter areas using second generation ink-this is where you ink the stamp, stamp it lightly once onto scrap paper before stamping onto your project. Use a second colour to blend the edges around the script detail, making it blend into the background.

3) Use a clear embossing ink to stamp, and heat set with Lisa's ultra fine white embossing powder. Using Lisa's powder has been revelation I must admit - the detail that it picks out and retains from the beautifully intricate stamps is amazing. 

Also at this stage, use a combination of the chosen inks and the texture stamps from Lisa's 'Texture' stamp collection to add more detail round the corners.

4) Use a blending sponger to apply ink around the outside of the embossed butterfly image. Consider using a contrasting ink to create a halo, or a shadow effect. The ideal is for this to still be visible when we later decoupage another stamped butterfly into place.

5) Use a clear ink to stamp a butterfly onto coordinating cardstock. One tip I find useful when looking to emboss an is to use a stamping platform. I then ink and stamp the image very lightly a number of times - this means that i don't need to press the stamp onto the card with too much force, risking losing some detail.

6)Sprinkle the embossing powder and heat set. 

7) You'll notice here I havn't stamped the whole image. That is because I only want to fussy cut the main body of the image- the intricate tails on this particular image is already embossed onto the backing paper. Decoupage this now onto the backing paper using either a 3D adhesive or glue.

8)Before assembling the card, add extra detail by stencilling onto the card blank.
