Making Books!

Hi everyone, Nikki here today from Addicted to Art.
On Lisa's recent show on Create and Craft one of the products was the MDF Bookcase and Greyboard books. I made several books so I thought I would share more details of one of them
Now I don't want to bore you so will keep the post quite brief - however this was quite a long project so please get in touch if you want to know anything else.

I started with the greyboard pieces secured together with strong tape . The outside texture is created with stippled gesso and once dry texture paste added through the flower stencil. Again once dry I made sure the entire surface was black (and dry) before dry brushing with white gesso to highlight the texture. Washes of paint were then added to create blue / deep red tones on the cover before quinacridone gold paint was added to edges to give the rusty tones.

I highlighted the flowers with gilding wax to highlight further and used the word stencil to add 'Enjoy'.

For the inside of my book I decided to use some gelli plate prints I made using Lisa's stencils. I do love my gelli plate and the slight unpredictable nature of the results!

Here close ups of the different pages:

See you next time!

  2. What stunning gelli prints on the pages inside - especially that one with the circles. The layers and combinations of colours are just amazing. I love the textured cover... hope we'll get to see details of some more of these fabulous books soon.
